Corps Badges
During the Civil War, the Union Army fielded 25 corps. Each corps was designated with a Roman numeral, i.e., III
Corps. On March 21, 1863 each corps was assigned a unique insignia to wear either on the cap, front or side or left breast for quick and easy identification. These cloth or metal badges
were red for the 1st division, white for the 2nd division and blue for the 3rd division. Corps with added divisions used green for the 4th division and orange for the 5th division.
